ABSTRACT

The effect of biofertilizers on the growth of Yercaud Bean plants Phaseolus vulgaris was studied. A field experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of a symbiotic nitrogen fixing bacterium Azospirillum brasilense and phosphate solubilizing bacterium Bacillus megatherium on growth and yield of common bean, Phaseolus vulgaris plant. Microorganisms caused significant increases in plant height, number of branches, number of leaves, weight of the roots, leaves, stems and chlorophyll content. The growth parameters for the biofertilizers are also optimized in this study. The synergistic application of the biofertilizers leads to better yield than Individual application. It can be recommended that using biofertilizers especially microorganisms with half amount of nitrogen fertilizers can yield good quality and quantity.
